Perspective
Jan 13th, 2009 by jae
Next week I will not be working. For the first time in my life, it will not be my choice. The cause, economic crisis, is scary. However, I am trying to keep some perspective. It is brief and temporary. My not working, the crisis remains to be seen. There are others suffering much worse. My situation may change but for now I will avoid making mountains from mole hills. Besides, I will have chocolate, yarn, and no need to wake before the sunrise. See? A little perspective goes a long way to calm fear.
Wait . . .not working as in at that job ever or not working as in a week of shut down? I hope the yarn, chocolate, and sleeping in make it all better!
I’m sorry. If there is anything I can do let me know.
Hugs to you Jae!!!! I understand more than you know, and YES this too will pass, it really will. Let me know if there is anything I can do – and above all else? Really Really enjoy that first day of not having to get up before dawn ;-) Yes, I had to crack a joke and hope you will smile, it does help to smile. Hugs again!
Hugs!
I hear you lady– Joe’s plant is shut down for the whole month. He is at work right now (and probably for the rest of the week) to fix an issue that came up with some parts they shipped before the shutdown, but other than that it’s unemploymentville. It is scary– I hope things improve soon.
I hope “not working”is short lived. But do enjoy your time off..chocolate makes everything better.
That’s not good, but it’s not as bad in a two income household.
It happened to my husband last week, who won’t be working for a while. We’ve re-adjusted our budget and it looks like things will be okay so long as he starts up again in the spring. In the meantime, we’re enjoying him being at home because he can tackle some work around the house. Yesterday, I came home to find the top of the fridge cleaned.
I feel you. I’ve been there, and will be there again next week.
Hopefully everything will work out for you in a positive way, and quickly.
Me too–I hear you sister! I’m 48 years old and have never been unemployed. It’s WIERD! and hard and sad and tough on your self-esteem. But we’re in good company–lots and lots of us home knitting these days. Be well.
It’s such a horrible thing to deal with, isn’t it? It has happened to me before too. The guilt about not contributing financially to the household, and getting your head around the whole thing is really difficult, especially if you’ve always worked. Isn’t it funny how we define ourselves by what we do for a living? When you lose your job, you kind of lose your identity.
However, if it is one week only – you won’t have time to ruminate on such matters. I have some ideas for you: Knit like the wind. Start drinking wine at lunchtime. Clear out the pantry. Plant some flowers. Give yourself a pedicure. Read a great book. Bake bread from scratch. Have coffee with girlfriends.
Enjoy it if you can Jae..
Good luck in finding another job – I hope it doesn’t take very long.
I hear ya…Mr. Larj has been in and out of work (mostly out) for the last 15 months. The only thing that saves us is that I carry our health insurance and my excessive yarn stash. Things have got to turn around soon in this state…soon.
I’ve been thinking of you a lot lately. We were in Holland for New Years, and I hung out at LizzieAnn’s for an afternoon, (owner formerly of TC, and YarnQuest up there). Then I was just up in TC for the last weekend (friend daughter wedding), and traveled home in a blizzard.
Do you work for JC? This is a one week shut down, right?
I’m so worried.
I’m so sorry to hear that. Enjoy sleeping in and I will keep you in my thoughts!
