I Never Learn

January 3rd, 2008 · 9 Comments

2008jan03_002.jpgMost of us who knit, do so for the pleasure of knitting.  It relaxes us, it gives our hands something productive to do, it is a wonderful excuse to buy more yarn, etc.  But, when was the last time you heard someone say “I knit so that I can have dozens of ends to weave in”?  Or how about this one - “If only my yarn would come pre-knitted so that I could jump straight to sewing up some seams”?

Seriously, you think I would learn.  Weave the ends in as I go.  Then I wouldn’t have procrastinated 3 days for an hour before tackling the task of finishing and blocking my Lady E.

I’m with you, I hate finishing too. That’s probably why I have so many UFOs.

I quite like The Mattress stitch part but I’m with you totally on the ends thing. I like socks, as there are only 2 ends on each one and I also like 200g or bigger balls of wool as there are fewer ends too. I hope it was not too awful!!!

I know I’m a bit of a weirdo, but I actually like weaving in ends. I find it quite satisfying, like icing a cake or putting a nice bow on a wrapped present.

I haven’t started my sleeves on first sweater that is NOT a top down raglan because it means once I finish them I have to do the dreaded seaming! I’m so afraid of it coming out fugly.

I don’t mind sewing in ends. I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it either. I put on something interesting (podcast, music or movie), get a cup of tea, and just go.

Seaming scares the crap out of me, as for weaving in ends on wool stuff, not ever since I learned to spit join. Other than that I use a Russian join, is it noticeable? I think unless it’s pointed out.. no one but you would know it’s there.

That’s what we all say - “next time I’ll weave in the ends as I go”. It’ll never happen.

LOL, then you are not a good candidate for fair isle or any other form of stranded knitting my friend.
Lady E looks wonderful. Did she get wet blocked or did you choose to keep the fluffy texture?

I never weave as I go which probably explains the pile of things still to be finished!!!! you’re not alone!
