My sweater has declared a do-over.
I was cruising merrily along the body. Trying it on as I went and it fit great. As perfect a fit as my favorite T-shirt. Coincidentally, that happened to be the muse for the dimensions of this pullover. Thus, I was in knitting bliss.
Next came the shoulders. I was going for a simple v-neck front and back sleeveless pullover. Mind you, I have no pattern. I’m winging it. Apparently, my sweater took this a little too literally. See how the shoulder just sticks straight out from the mannequin? It looks the same way on me. Except that because I have appendages, I add an additional “wing” that sticks out below my arms.
Thank goodness that knitting is gracious and forgiving. It does not say “I told you so”, when you realize that your needle is two sizes too small for the drape you need and that you forgot armshaping in your rush to knit the shoulder. It allows you to try again (and again and again and….).
I have ripped out the shoulder. It looks like this – again. An iron on low heat has smoothed out the ribbon yarn. Louisa Harding Sari Ribbon for the curious. I am ready to start over. Hopefully, a little smarter this time.
Ahhhhhhhh – yessssssssss – the old Batwing Mulligan.
liking your bare naked lady (a la cindy 2 paw) but with the nice sweater instead…
Ms Manager ( If I say that with a Spanish accent you are all redolent of Fawlty Towers!!) I was just admiring the chic-ness of The BareNakedLady, with her very lovely jumper under the new top!!
Yep, we all need a little, or a lot!!, of shaping and definitely no wings!!
You are very brave to design on the needles like that. I’d be too chicken! I probably would have tried to turn the wing into a dropped shoulder and added a sleeve. Not that it would have worked, but that’s why I use a pattern ;)
Thank you thank you thank you!! And you know why!! TYTY!!!!
It is indeed a blessing that knitting, unlike sewing, can simply be undone and started again without (generally) damaging the materials used!
And now there are questions: Do you have a cunning plan on how to avoid the 80s batwing? Will there be decorative decreases? Will the Mannequin Union be after you for unnecessary cruelty in forcing yours to wear not one but *two* knitted items in August??
I love that in knitting do-overs are so easy. I love the blue color, and I’m sure the shoulder will be great now that you have it all figured out.
