Start of a Swatch

March 15th, 2007 · 8 Comments

If you could see all the thoughts spinning around inside my head, you would swear it was tornado season.  Too many things to actually type a coherent post.  But you aren’t here for the post, are you?  You’re here for the swatch with my lace addi needles.   Especially, if you are a Knight that does not Knit.

15mar2007-010.jpgThe yarn is baby alpaca from a friend.  The swatch is the beginning of Chinese Feather from the Barbara Walker Treasury collection,  Volume 1 or 2. I can’t remember and the book is far, far away on the other side of the house.   The reason the swatch is so small is because it is patterned on both sides and I had to knit from text instead of a chart.  Thus, I had to stop and check each row to make sure I put the holes where they were supposed to go.  Nothing like finding a wayward yarnover five rows after the fact.

The needles are wonderful!  They are pointy and the joins are smooth, just like you want with lace.  My only complaint, and honestly I should have seen this coming, is that the points hurt when I knit.  I’m a needle pusher when I knit.  I am always pressing my right index finger against the left tip to move the needle tip down to the stitches.  Instead of pushing the stitches up to the needle tip.  Inspite of this, I’ll be adding more of these lace addis to my collection of needles.

Some of you asked how they compare to the KP Options.  I can’t tell you.  I’ve never used the KP options.  But in their own right, these addis seem up to the task of knitting lace.

Oh, The Knight’s NJ is looking good and what a lovely colour that wool there is!! I push sock needles with my left index finger and get a hole. I can’t knit with bandaids either. No chart?? I confess now that if there isn’t a chart: I am cross!!!

I’m a needle pusher too. Maybe we need one of those sealskin thimbles like Native Alaskan women used to use.

I understand what you mean about the blogging community. I have more blog friends than real life friends. I think my reason is that I express myself much better in writing than in person. It’s just easier to blog than to actually talk.

Looks like it will be pretty! I must get my eyeballs on those Barbara Walker Treasuries - just a looky look to see whether I should be trawling through second-hand shops for them, or should be seeking out any and all stitch dictionaries.. Must be like cookbooks - you don’t have to use every single recipe, but the browsing for ideas is a feast in itself!

    Nice laciness. lacyness? laceyness?
Whatever! I can’t wait to see more. LOL

I push when I knit, too, and I have little spots on the tips of my pointer fingers that are rougher than the rest of my skin.

Me too (push and have holes in fingers).

KP needles will poke a hole in your finger too. I was never a needle pusher - stitches are too snug for it - until I tried lace where I naturally knit looser stitches. Quite surprised I was how sensitive it can make your poor fingers!

Personally I just want to pet the swatch. Gorgeous baby alpaca, mmmmm……

The swatch looks great so far. I too am a needle pusher, but I have been trying to get out of this habit.
