Shawl of Many Colors
Mar 22nd, 2007 by jae
Since casting off my mothers cardigan (photos to follow next week after I visit her),  I’ve been waiting. Waiting for inspiration to strike. Knitting swatches has been about all I the excitement I can manage to find.Â
In the meantime, I’ve been asked to take a shawl and write the pattern. It was originally created to showcase the various colorways dyed by a LYS. Knowing my love of all things lace and math, very little persuasion was required to convince me to create the needed charts for the pattern.  The beautifully dyed silk and wool is just added incentive as I’ve counted yarn overs and decreases to match notes to knit.Â
Colorways from top:Lake Charlevoix, Up North, Trout, Harvest, Lighthouse Road, Grand Traverse, Blueberry (or Nighthawk, they are very close cousins)

Hey! I know that beautiful shawl ;-)
How cool to get to take it home and document it so others can create such beauties. Way to go Jae!
Mrs Smarty Arty Farty Pants! Imagine being able to do that. I’m not worthy.
WOW! I am not even close to that type of challenge. Right now toe up socks are killing me.
Oh wow… I wandered over from Donni’s blog and don’t regret it!!!! I MUST have that pattern and yarn!!!
It is absolutely gorgeous!!!
Cheers Eva
Wow, that sounds like a daunting task, but it is a beautiful shawl, and the colors are gorgeous.
Very beautiful shawl! Will they then give you yarn to test knit the shawl from your charts? I would pretend I needed to do that if I were in your shoes! (I would need to do that–no pretending required.)
Ooooh wow that is so gorgeous!!! You have done so well with that!
The colours are so gorgeous and the pattern is beautiful too

SO I am curious. Just HOW do you write a pattern? I’m pretty decent at mathematics. This one is amazing and I would love to order it when it becomes available.
Ok, I might let you off the alpaca spree if you are doing lace pattern interpretations for the greater good. Maybe.
*not-so-secretly jealous of your amazing lacyness*
:)
ps I’ll have the Trout, the Grand Traverse, and both Blueberry and Nighthawk – I see no reason to starve myself when there is such a feast in view!
pps “had I but worlds enough and time”…
‘;>
I’ve been absolutely remiss in visiting blogs lately – time issues. Anyway, nice to play catch up. I LOVE the concept of showcasing the colors that way.
And Congrats Girl! ;)
Meanwhile, what you are not telling everyone is how lusciously soft and silky that yarn is. (is it the Bloomfield, now that I’ve said that?)
Very good eye, Marji! Yes it is Bloomfield – aka Henry Attic’s 50/50 wool and silk.
That is so pretty!
That shawl is so beautiful, I should like to knit one of those myself!
Thanks for thinking of me – I’m honoured beyond belief.
