Sacrifices

March 6th, 2007 · 14 Comments

Phone rings.

Me: “Hello?”
Hubby: “You have knit night at the LYS tonight, right?”
Me: “Yes, why?”
Hubby:”Do you think they would have olive green yarn?”
Me (thinking): He does know I am going to a yarn STORE, right?
Me (outloud): “The chances are pretty good.”
Hubby: “While you are there can you buy one skein for me?  I think it will make a good fly for when I go fishing next month and you don’t have any in your stash that I like.”
Me: “. . .”

I was speechless for a moment. I chose to ignore that he wanted yarn to throw in a river.  Instead, I skipped right to waffling between congratulating him on the proper use of the words stash and skein in a sentence or telling him I was going to padlock my yarn room.

If it keeps him away from my stash, I can sacrifice a ball of wool to the fishing gods.

Nice looking flies! If I were a fish, I’d bite.

You should congratulate your husband on correct knitting terminology. Mine is so happy when he can throw a knitting word into a sentence.

That’s a sweet story - and at least he asked for a ball of his own!

Oh you’ve turned him to The Dark Side. Well done Luke!!!!

I have NOT turned to the dark side, I just thought it was finacially more practical to buy a skein instead of the small cards of yarn for $2 at the fly shops. I think the flies look pretty good also, and hopefully the fish will bite.

Well I think the flies rock! I’m usually approached by male friends for my hemostats for equipment for this. And I admire the economics your husband has. PLUS and most important of all, he didnt go digging in your stash w/o your knowing about it. Pretty great guy in my book!

oooooh (sound of envy) and green is my favorite color. The second socks are on the needles, but I still have to do the toe for the firsts. Hope fully my cold will be over soon and I can wrap my head around that. I did some flyfishing eons ago, his is beautiful!

Pretty flies! Good yarn match too. Glad they aren’t yellow though!

Designer flies! Cool! Lucky fish!…Or unlucky. It depends on your point of view!

Let’s hope he stays away from your stash yarn. *L*

    Great story. :D

I’m just wondering what would have happened if you had a ball of olive green say, cashmere in your stash ;-)

Beautiful flies, very talented hubby too!

[…] I’m sure that all will go well and that the worst that will happen is a good soaking.  But if not, will you please make sure that my husband doesn’t use my stash for fishing? […]
