Haunted by Yarn?

February 17th, 2007 · 8 Comments

Do you hear it?  Coming from the deepest, utmost bottom layer of your stash.  The whimper of lovely but forgotten sock yarn.  The sniffling of lovely but neglected aran weight.  The sigh of the lovely-must-have-impulse-buy-that-has-no-purpose-and-you-now-wonder-what-made-you-purchase-it-in-the-first-place.

These are the sounds of lovely but unloved yarn haunting your stash.  It weighs you down.  Leaves you feeling guilty.  It most certainly distracts from the pleasure that should be your stash.  How, though, are you to exorcise the yarn that haunts you?

You don’t feel right selling it.  Maybe it is used.  You tried to knit those trendy lace socks but after eighteen attempts you have accepted reality.  Maybe it is a gift from your well intentioned great aunt.  The great aunt that thinks you loves dusty rose, while you prefer dark cranberry.

Perhaps you don’t actually want it to leave your stash.  You are certain that if you clap your hands, turn around three times, and mutter “abracadabra” under your breath, the aran weight wool will become lace weight silk.  Or the dusty rose will become dark cranberry.

Well then, Good Yarn Karma can help. Not with the clapping, turning, and muttering, but with the haunting and the guilt.  The brainchild of Donni, it is a clearing house for yarn looking for a new good home.  Donni has graciously asked Nora and I to join her in getting it off the ground.

So, if you want to be able to look at your stash without your fingers in your ears, join us at Good Yarn Karma.  You’ll be able to post about the yarn you would like to give away or trade.  And along the way some good karma will happen.   Now, who couldn’t use a little more good karma?

What a good idea! Unfortunately I do not have enough good yarn to swap. I am still building a stash. My sister’s name is Jae. Do you use Jae as a short form or is it your given name?

Hi Jae, what a great idea. Like Martina, I too am still building my yarn stash and have wonderful projects planned for everything I have. Now in 6 months, after I have had time to do some more shopping you might find me posting some yarn shash.

This is cool! We’re in the process of moving and I was a bit bewildered at my stash when it was all pulled out in the open.

I saw that at Nora’s. What a great idea you guys have come up with. I’ll listen to my tiny stash, in case anything calls to me to go somewhere else.

Heh, yarn haunting… how very true! And yarn guilt - I know it well!
