Is There Caffiene in Yarn?
Jan 23rd, 2007 by jae
Several months ago I purchased some yarn. I know, I know, I’m stating the obvious. Yarn that was meant for Lady Eleanor of Scarf Style. It has been knit by many all over blogland.  I wanted to be one of those people, desperately!  But first I had to knit my ABC’s, then a last minute christmas knit, and then a birthday knit.
However, denying my impulse only caused my desperation to be a Lady E knitter to grow. Between Christmas and New Year, I could no longer resist.  Like a person after their eighteenth cup of coffee, I casted on and have been addicted ever since. My excuse was that I needed wanted a little “for me” knitting on the needles. No, the peacock shawl, two sweaters, evening shawl, and other wips do not count as “for me” knitting. Why? Because that would invalidate my argument to start Lady E. Please don’t shatter my delusions.Â
The Lady E has been an incredibly fun, quick, knitting project. Who knew little squares could be so energizing? While not a big fan of Noro yarns, I don’t like extra nature in my yarn, the silk garden is a wonderful fiber for this project. The length of color is just right for the small blocks formed by the entrelac.Â
I am almost at the end of my third skein. Normally, by now cast-on-for-something-new-itis has started to occur. Not so with this knitting.  I’m still so in love with this project, I’m beginning to suspect that someone has added caffiene, nicotiene, or some other addictive -iene to the yarn. Who knows, I might actually finish this in less than my average time of months years. Stranger things have happened!
Gorgeous!
I love your new blog. Pictures are so sharp. Lady E looks great. See you Wednesday.
there is something addicting about all those quick color changes…you have to just keep knitting one more row to see what the transitions are and before you know it the project is over….way to go!
lovely lady e!
Oh great! Now I want to knit one.
It looks beautiful!
Don’t wave that around in front of me! That’s all I need, something else on the wishlist ;)
The Silk Garden does soften up nicely when it has been washed and worn. Lady E looks very beautiful and the Noro is perfect for all those little squares. Maybe it is like knitting a whole lot of little things rather than one giant thing???
I love the colors! I have Silk Garden in my stash for this, color 82, but its mostly plums, grays, mossy green… Seeing yours makes me want to start mine immediately!
Your Lady E has inspired me- I ordered the pattern and would like to use the same colors -if- you will consider copying the highest form of praise! Outside of a Key West sunset it is the most beautiful thing I have seen. I mastered the four needles on my sock and can now knit the square-woohoo! Thanks again
How many balls of Silk Garden does this take again?
ooh, lovely colorway! I originally bought my Noro SG to do Clapotis but am now thinking Lady E!!!
465! You are almost there. WOW! Knit a row in prayer for Bonnie, please. Thank you
maybe not caffiene, but yes, yarn is totally addictive and husbands should realise this and be sympathetic with the size of the stash, not look incredulous at the latest squishy parcel in the post and shake their heads…
You’re so nearly there with your Knit Michigan target… well done! Thank you for doing this for all of us. Is also very cool seeing my blog in the sidebar, ‘cos I’ve only been blogging a few months :-D
Look, Mum! I’m famous!
We already know about the need for warning labels, and we have all these support groups (knitblogs & SnBs etc), but have you thought that maybe there are subliminal messages ~woven~ into this medium??? I find it *impossible* to read these blogs without tea and chocolate right beside me, and have even been known to go back to the pantry THREE TIMES for “just one more square”….. The subliminal content should be changed to “go on, have a bit of chocolate, you know you want to – but only 3 pieces, you know you have to leave room for lunch in half an hour – and besides, if you eat it all now, what will you nibble after dinner???”
Gogeous colorway – which is it? From a former Michigander now living in NYC
Wow, that’s really beautiful. The colourway is stunning. I’m working on a similar enterlac scarf. You’re definitely right…knitting those little squares are so addictive!
Isn”t it fun?!?
So glad you got to start it.
I can’t believe how quickly you are motoring through this project! It’s so impressive. I have six balls of silk garden in the stash but I’m afraid that won’t be enough…
