Yesterday, I went on an all day yarn crawl to LYS1, LYS2, and LYS3. My main goal was finding yarn for my scarfee for the Int’l Scarf Exchange. Of course, I came home with much more!! Counter clockwise from top left: Online Linie 85 color Smash, Heritage Handpaint Oxford color “Up North” and”Lake Charlevoix”, Noro Silk Garden #205, Manos Multi #111, and A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns.
I’ve been fascinated with the idea of making socks. It’s one project I’ve not yet tried. And the color and feel of the Heritage Handpaint was beyond resistance. Jaywalker seems to be a popular pattern, but I’m not sure that I’m ready for that. The nice ladies at the LYS said I should do a simple pattern first, to get the hang of things. Of course, I have never listened to common sense before always enjoyed a challenge and may dive in with a more complicated pattern.
The Manos and Silk Garden are for my Int’l Scarf Exchange. I have visions of cables for the Manos and ribbing for the Silk Garden. I am really torn as to which would be a better choice for my scarfee. I am leaning towards the Noro, because I really love the soft feel and I think she will too. But the Manos has such cool subtle variations in its reds. I think the only solutions is that I have to cast on both!!

Welcome to the world of knit-blogging. I saw your post on the scarf exchange and followed it to check out your blog. Where on earth did you find yarn with color names including ‘up north’ and Lake Charlevoix? (And do they make a Torch Lake?) I just did my yarn crawl across Michigan (see my blog entry last week) - but missed a yarn store in Charlevoix if htere is one. I found the one in Alanson though, never knew it was there and I lived in TC for 11 years. As for what to cast on? I love the Silk Garden in the Magknits pattern. But, like me, you will probably cast on both….

Thanks for the welcome! The yarn came from a store in Lake Orion, MI (LYS2). They dye their own blends. Each blend is named after a town in Michigan, and the most of the colors have Michigan references. I don’t think they have a Torch lake, though. Thanks for the pointer for the Silk Garden. I’ll check out the pattern.
